Install as an app (PWA)
- 01
What a PWA is
OpenBooth is a Progressive Web App (PWA): a website you can install like a native app. Once installed it gets its own icon, opens in its own window without the browser address bar, and starts faster. There is nothing to download from an app store, the install happens straight from the browser. After you have spent a little time with OpenBooth, this install banner appears in the corner:
The install banner appears at the bottom of the screen. Click Install to add OpenBooth to your device. - 02
How to install
The exact step depends on your browser and device:
- Desktop (Chrome, Edge): click Install in the banner, or use the install icon in the address bar.
- Android (Chrome): tap Install in the banner, or open the browser menu and choose
Install app. - iPhone / iPad (Safari): tap the Share icon and choose
Add to Home Screen. Safari has no automatic prompt.
The banner only shows up after you have used OpenBooth for a while, and stays hidden for two weeks once dismissed. To bring it back on demand, use this button:
Note
If no install dialog appears after clicking, OpenBooth is most likely already installed, or your browser does not support web app install (for example desktop Firefox or Safari). In that case use the browser menu. - 03
Standalone mode
An installed PWA runs in standalone mode: its own window, no tabs and no address bar. That is cleaner and more app-like, but it also means you cannot type a new URL to jump to another page. Navigate with the in-app controls instead: OpenBooth shows a Back button in the header when it runs as an installed app.

Reaching your public pages
Public listener and channel pages live under their own address, for example
openbooth.io/[org]/streams, and are not linked from the OpenBooth marketing site. If you want listeners to install your page as an app, install it while you are on that page: the app then opens straight on your org's streams page, where the channel list is the home screen. From there the in-app Back button moves between channels and pages without a URL bar.Tip
Tip: install the app from your own streams page, not from the marketing homepage. That way it opens on your content every time you launch it.
